Baker Street Cinema is an independent 280 seat cinema based in the heart of Abergavenny known as the “Gateway to Wales” and is surrounded by a variety of restaurants, shops and hotels. The cinema is housed within an important historic (but unlisted) building built in 1896 as a Drill Hall. Since then, it has had a variety of uses from a Dance Hall to DIY shop / Carpet retailer to a Bed showroom.
The Cinema was created by the current owners in 2010 and has been run as a successful lifestyle business. It is now offered for sale for the first time since its creation, due to the owners’ wish to retire. A new owner may choose to either operate the business themselves or employ a manager to run the business for them. Alternatively there is also scope for the building to be modified for other uses, subject to obtaining the relevant planning permissions (STPP).

Baker Street Cinema is located in the centre of Abergavenny, a popular Welsh town with a vast array of restaurants, shops and hotels, which in 2017 was named one of the best places to live in Wales. The town attracts many tourists and hosts an array of events, such as The National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2016 which attracted around 150,000 visitors.
Abergavenny is promoted as a “Gateway to Wales” and is situated approximately 6 miles from the English border. It is a medieval walled town which contains the remains of a medieval stone castle. Merthyr Tydfil is the nearest large town with a population of 43,820 (2011), situated approximately 19 miles away.

Car – The meet point of the A40 and the A465 is located at Abergavenny allowing the town to be easily accessible by car and other motor transport. There is a public car park 250m away and disabled parking adjacent to the cinema.
Train – Abergavenny train station is located 0.8 miles south east of the cinema (an 18 minute walk).
Bus – Abergavenny bus station is located 0.4 miles south east of the cinema (an 8 minute walk).

The cinema comprises two screens with 160 and 120 seats respectively.
Once through the main entrance you are greeted by a foyer with box office and kiosk selling popcorn, confectionary and hot and cold drinks.
The two auditoria are located on the ground floor just off the foyer with ladies and gentlemen’s toilets located on the first floor and disabled toilet and stockroom on the ground floor.
The cinema is a neatly streamlined operation easily managed with minimal staff.
The business is currently open 6 days per week (closed Mondays) with one performance nightly and two performances on a Saturday and Sunday night during term time. There are two performances daily during school holidays.
The cinema has a reputation for screening mostly mainstream films as well as some well-chosen more up-market films aimed at the more discerning mature audience.
